Our Top 3 Places to Shoot Family Portraits in Los Angeles

At Home

There’s no place like home. It’s the most familiar location around. You and your kids will be yourselves here and be in the comforts of your own home. It’s easiest for infants, babies and toddlers. You can take photos with your pets. You can try on different outfits and there’s a bathroom nearby. Plus, you don’t have to travel!

We can maintain social distancing by using the outside of your home. If you’re comfortable we can shoot inside as well by keeping distant, opening windows and wearing having your photographer wear a facemask.

Here are some ideas for shooting at home:

• by the front door. There’s usually really nice light in the doorway.

• on the patio bench

• sitting on steps

• your backyard

• your grass

• in front of a white or plain wall

• getting cozy together on the sofa

• lying on the floor

• in a bedroom with good natural light

• jumping on the bed together

• near windows with good natural light

• anywhere with natural light :)

Gardens & Parks

Why we like them?

Gardens and Parks are perfect for that Autumn look. There’s fresh air and space. Great for social distancing. There are many lovely gardens with different sceneries. There’s usually a small patch of grass that you can sit on with a blanket. There’s beautiful fall trees and flowers around. Some gardens have unique things for kids like train tracks, a bridge, a big wooden chair or a stone maze. There are benches, rocks or logs to sit and shoot on. You can even bring your dogs to most parks to join in on the fun if you’re up for it :)

Who it’s for:

All families (dogs included)

Tips for families:

• bring a blanket to sit on for cozy pictures together or for your baby to lay on

• bring treats in case you need to bribe your kids or dogs :)

The Beach

Why we like it?

We always have a great time shooting at the beach!
What could be better? There’s fresh air, the waves, sunshine and your loved ones.

Great for social distancing. Great for candid shots! It’s a place where you and your kids can play, explore and be free from distractions.

Any beach will do, especially if we’re shooting around sunset.
Luckily we have sunshine year round most of the time in LA :)

Who it’s for:

• Couple’s engagement shoots, pregnant mother’s maternity shoots, families with young children, families with older children, grandparents. Everyone!

Tips for families:

• mini-sessions are great for a beach location as we make the sessions fun, fast and exciting with lots of movement

• bring a change of clothes just in case we get dirty or if you want to stay and play!

• bring sandals so you can really enjoy yourself, relax, and not worry about getting your shoes and socks wet.

• bring a towel to clean off before entering your car.
